    Coaching Steps and Procedures 

    In order to provide quality coaches for secondary school athletes, Frontier Central School District and New York State have established standards required of all coaches, non-paid and paid.  The following guidelines are requirements from the New York State Education Department: 
     
    Step 1:
    All Coaches Must Submit the Frontier Application Found on the Athletic Web Page, Cover Letter, Coaching Resume, and 3 Letters of Recommendations to the Athletic Director.  
     
    Step 2:

    Non-Certified Teachers/Volunteers must complete the following to coach in New York State:

    • Fingerprinting clearance through NYSED Morpho Trust 877-472-6915 (www.identogo.com)
    • Current first aid certification (valid for 3 years) Available through our Athletic Trainer
    • Current CPR/AED (valid for 2 years) Available through our Athletic Trainer
    • Child Abuse Course, Violence Prevention & Intervention (SAVE) workshop and Dasa Training.  Available through BOCES and on-line.
    • Concussion Management.  Available online. 
    • Completed Temporary Coaches license. Done through NYS TEACH. Renewed annually. 
    • Completion of Philosophy, Principles, and Organization of Athletics, Health Science Applied to Coaching and the Theory and Techniques of Coaching (sport specific) course within five (5) years of initial appointment. Available through BOCES and online. Or NFHS approved course track. Available online through NFHS

    Physical Education Teachers must complete the following to coach in New York State:

    • New York State initial, provisional, or permanent certificate to teach physical education. 
    • First Aid certification prior to start of sport season.
    • Current CPR/AED certification prior to start of sport season.
    • Concussion Management.  Available online. 


    Teacher Coaches/Volunteers (excluding Physical Education) must complete the following to coach in New York State:

    • Current first aid certification (valid for 3 years) approved courses
    • Current CPR/AED (valid for 2 year) approved courses
    • Concussion Management.  Available online.
    • Completion of Philosophy, Principles, and Organization of Athletics, Health Science Applied to Coaching and the Theory and Techniques of Coaching (sport specific) course within three (5) years of initial appointment. Available through BOCES and online. Or NFHS approved course track. Available on-line through NFHS.
    Step 3:  Submit all Information to Athletic Director and Erie 1 BOCES Certification Office.

    Step 4:  Approved by the Board of Education
