    Dear Parents and Guardians,
Looking ahead as we continue through this academic year, I would like to begin the process of placing our students for the 2020-2021 academic year.
Toward the end of June, I will be meeting with teachers by grade level to review the needs and abilities of our students.  Our objective is to organize classrooms to meet individual needs and learning styles, creating an educational group that supports the whole child.
As a parent or guardian, if you feel the need to provide us with information to be considered in placing your child, this may be done only in the form of a letter to the building principal via email.  Please do not request specific teachers, but instead, provide pertinent information you believe should be considered when selecting the classroom environment your child will be placed in for the 2020-2021 academic year.  If you would like your child to be separated from another child, this request should be made in writing to the building principal, as well.  Such requests will not be shared with other parents or individuals outside of the academic team.
All letters regarding placement must be received by Thursday, June 11th to be considered for placement decisions.  Once again, classroom placement letters will be mailed to homes in August.  Please do not ask us to change your child's classroom assignment after you receive the placement letter.
I assure you that the needs of your child will be carefully considered during the placement process. Thank you for your support and cooperation as we work together in your child's education.  Please feel free to contact me if you have additional questions or concerns.
    Respectfully yours,
    Deanne Lester
    Building Principal

  • The following letter is being sent home with your Orientation Packet.  Please read all the information contained in the packet and be ready to meet our Blasdell crew on the 29th.

    May 15, 2020

    Dear Kindergarten Parents,

I hope this letter finds you well and excited to start your child’s education at Blasdell Elementary.  We are excited to meet our new families and our new “Bees” when the time is right for us to get together.  Kindergarten is a monumental step in beginning your child’s education and we want you to be as excited as ever to watch your child grow and develop with us. I know there are questions about our Kindergarten program and our district services, and I am hopeful this package provides some guidance in preparing for the school year.

On Friday May 29th, I invite you to a virtual Kindergarten Orientation.  Our teachers will be there to introduce themselves, and I will highlight important information about Blasdell and the Kindergarten program.  We are offering two sessions of the Kindergarten Orientation, 1:00pm or 5:30pm.  Please select the one that works best with your schedule.  For anyone who is unable to attend either of the two sessions, the orientation will be recorded and posted to our website.

Enclosed in this package, you will find orientation materials that will be discussed and the orientation meeting schedule and links.  All registered families will receive an invitation to the orientation meeting through their email.  Please read through the documents I will be presenting and discussing with you.

At this point, we are moving forward one step at a time, and I know you will have more questions when we meet as a group.  Please know that as a district, we are working together to plan our future events, and will keep you up to date with any decisions.

I look forward to seeing everyone on May 29th!

    Respectfully yours,

    Deanne Lester

    Blasdell Families,

I would like to start by thanking you for your patience and partnership as we navigate this uncertain time. I am hopeful this document will communicate how our new phase in learning will look and highlight technology expectations in how your student’s teacher will provide instruction.  It is incredibly critical that we work together as a community, to ensure all of our students have access to their new learning and are actively participating in instructional activities our teachers have created for them.  The following information is for your reference.  Please keep as a guide in understanding our levels of expectation for the new learning phase of our school year.

    • Building Principal: Deanne Lester-- , BLOOMZ, or Blasdell Elementary Web Page
    • Teacher emails are located on the Frontier Website and the Blasdell Elementary Web Page
    • If you have not received any type of correspondence, please email the teacher at your earliest convenience.

How will we communicate with your children?

    • Each student received a GOOGLE email address. The email address also allows them full access to the GOOGLE Suite of Applications that we will be using as a platform for learning (DOCS, DRIVE, CLASSROOM, MEETS, etc.)
    • PLEASE make sure you can log into your child’s email address. Teachers will be sending messages to children there.  THIS IS NOT how you as a parent should be communicating with the teacher –please use the established method for parent communication.  That could be BLOOMZ, REMIND, or established email.  Teachers also may utilize mail, phone calls, etc. to communicate with your child.  It is a district requirement for our teachers to check and connect with your child.

    • “NEW” Learning is expected to begin on 4/20. As of right now, school is closed until April 29th—per the governor.
    • GOOGLE Suite of Application—This will be our platform for distance learning. As stated above, each student has access to an email and will be invited to their teacher’s classroom.  This will be your “home base”.  Everything you will need for your child will be linked or actually on this page.
    • Prior to the start of a new week, your teacher will post on GOOGLE classroom a framework for learning. This framework will include all subjects listed for each day.  We understand how overwhelmed you may be feeling at the beginning of this new learning phase.  We wanted to give you the week’s learning opportunities ahead of time so that you can plan for your student’s learning at a pace that meets your family’s needs.
    • Special Areas (PE, MUSIC, ART, LIBRARY) will have their learning opportunities linked to the classroom site as well as have a Special Area GOOGLE Classroom for resources.
    • Specialists such as Reading and Math---They will be creating their own GOOGLE classrooms and inviting children If your child has worked with Mrs. Gall, Mrs. Sippel, or Mrs. Duerr this year—please be on the lookout for an email invitation to join their learning support classrooms, if they haven’t done so already.
    • Teachers will be modifying curriculum greatly. Your student will not be expected to have 5 new lessons from 5 subjects each day.  The learning opportunities will be paced and supported.  Teachers will be providing feedback using MEET opportunities, GOOGLE Forms, recorded lessons, and email feedback for students.
    • Grading—Students will be engaged in instructional activities in which the teachers will monitor student performance and participation so that they are able to provide targeted feedback to your student. We will be working diligently to ensure student understanding of the instructional concepts and modifying the supports we have put in place
    • Technology—The students have access to online supports such as IREADY, DiscoveryED, NearPod, etc. These can be accessed through your child’s CLASSLINK.  Directions for sign in have been posted on the Blasdell Elementary Webpage.
    • Struggling with instructional technology? Please let your teacher know, they may be able to help. If not, our librarian Beth Selig can be contacted to support you,
    • Blasdell Webpage- Please continue to visit and celebrate our Bees! Send in your child’s examples of good character and pictures for our weekly themes so we can post them to our page. Resource links are available for parents, as well as any and all district and building communications.

Blasdell, thank you for all you do for your students!  We miss our Bees!
