Blasdell Elementary ESL Program
Blasdell Elementary School welcomes students from around the world and embraces the diversity within our Hamburg community. We currently have students enrolled from about ten different nations, representing Eastern European, Asian, Subcontinental, Arab, and Caribbean cultures. Students are identified as English Language Learners (ELLs) based on guidelines from New York State. If a students is identified as an ELL, they are given additional support in reading and writing as mandated by New York State. English as a New Language (ENL) services are provided for one year and students are given the chance to test out of ENL at the conclusion of that year. While in our ENL program, students participate in all aspects of their curricula and are afforded equal access to all school programs and services. The additional support they receive is given both in the classroom and in small group settings. Our program encourages all Blasdell students to become culturally aware citizens and ENL students frequently share their knowledge and experiences with the entire school community.teacher: Mrs. Kari Anderson, Ed.M., ESOL
