Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What are school hours?
A: Student hours are 7:16 AM to 1:41 PM. Students will not be allowed to enter the building earlier than 7:05.Q: Is breakfast served at school?A: Breakfast and lunch are served every day when students attend school for a full day. On some half days, breakfast may also be served, but not on all. All students may receive a free lunch and breakfast for this school year. Those who do not desire breakfast at school will have instructional activities at that time. The entire class will proceed to the cafeteria for lunch each day, regardless of their desire to eat.Q: How do I know if school is canceled due to weather or other circumstances?
A: Announcements on the radio or television regarding the Frontier Central School District and/or Frontier High School being closed due to weather or any other reason affecting our class. There are a variety of BOCES centers that may be closed from time to time. These closings do not affect our class. The only exception would be if all BOCES special education classes were canceled. That announcement would pertain to our class.
Q: What are the procedures if I must pick my child up from school for an appointment?
A: Our class will follow the procedure for all other students in the building. That is: A note from the parent or guardian must be received prior to picking up students. Visitors or parents picking up students at Frontier High School should report to door #14 by the South Office. Upon entering the school, visitors will be asked to show picture identification and to sign the log. Your child will be summoned to the South Office and meet you there. It should be noted that no access to the building will be granted via any door other than door #14 during the school day. Therefore, if you are dropping your child off after 7:16 A.M. you must also do so at door # 14. Thank you for your cooperation with this procedure.
Q: What is the best way to contact the teacher?
A: Four options are available. They are: a note sent in with a student, phone call (at 926-1720 x2130) between the hours of 7:00 and 2:00, text through Remind, or e-mail (aceccarelli@frontiercsd.org, or amarranca-ceccarelli@e1b.org). Unless e-mail, Remind, or voice mail are not working properly, all modes will work equally well and should be responded to within one school day.
Q: How is vocational training incorporated into the classroom?
A: Students participate in a variety of work experiences in the school building as well as in the community. Activities in the classroom include tasks students may encounter in work settings. Placements in the community are always contingent on acceptable behavior exhibited in the school setting as well as in the work setting within the building. All placements are subject to change in accordance with a student's behavior, needs, and interests.
Q: How can parents help their child be successful at school?
A: All students are required to be as self-sufficient as possible. Encouraging independence and providing choices will help them in this goal. Regarding specific students, please contact Mrs. Marranca-Ceccarelli.
Q: How can therapists or specials teachers be contacted?
A: Any of the professionals working with students in the class may be contacted through the classroom teacher. A note in a student's notebook or the contents of a phone call or e-mail, will be conveyed to any of the therapists or special teachers on the days they service our class.
Q: What supplies does my child need for school?
A: Typically, most school supplies are provided. Each student should have a folder with pockets to bring home work and notes. A note will be sent home from school daily which is written, in part, by the student and completed by the teacher, which will also go in the folder. Parents are encouraged to write to school as often as possible to inform classroom staff of out of school activities to stimulate conversation and to keep the lines of communication open. Students will need to bring in any personal items they require and lunch (unless they will be eating a school lunch) on a daily basis. Students may bring in a snack or money to purchase one if desired. Many students do not want/need a snack, but there is time to have one during free time if one is desired. Students may have a wallet or purse to keep their money, ID and personal items in if desired. In general, school supplies will be provided. However, if a particular school supply works best or is preferred by a student, it should be sent in (i.e.: mechanical pencil, specific type of scissors, etc.). Students should all have a complete change of clothes in the event they are needed.Summary of items:FolderComplete change of clothesIndividually preferred school supplies (specific pencil, pen, etc.)Wallet and/or purse if desiredLunch if not receiving school lunchSnack if desired
