4/29: Discussed the layout of the Globe Theater. Also, discussed the parameters of a sonnet. For HW, finish the sonnet you started in class. If you were absent, make sure you get the rhyming words right!
4/15: Checked grades. Reviewed Central Idea due Wednesday. Agree/disagree due tomorrow (see 4/8).

4/9: Passed out Agree / Disagree - due 4/16 (complete sentences!!!!). Passed out Nelson Mandela Central Idea Essay - due 4/17 (use your old central idea essays for reference!). Watched Invictus.

3/8: IR day! Collected IR for 1st half of book.
3/7: Presented Found Poems. In groups - create six questions from Night based on the levels of Bloom's Taxonomy. First part of your IR is due tomorrow! I have included a templet here if you want to use it. ake sure it is for half of your book. Bring your IR book for tomorrow.
3/6: Finished video from yesterday. Discussed what found poems are (mini lesson). You must complete a found poem and artistically decorate around it for HW. Come see me for further instructions and for a page of text.

3/4: Went over IR project. First half of book plus 6 Bloom's Taxonomy question, answers and explanations are due this Friday. We read chap 7 from Night in class, finishing chapters 8&9 are HW due tomorrow.
3/1: IR day. Make sure you read! You should be about 1/2 way through your book by now.
2/28: With a partner, you are going to write six questions (one for each of the levels in Bloom's Taxonomy) from any part of the book so far - chaps 1-6. Then, you are going to answer the questions, and explain why each questionfits into the level of Bloom's Taxonomy.

2/26: Welcome back! Collect Cornell Notes. Discuss Night and work on timeline (ON YOUR OWN PAPER). You need 5 events for each chapter 1-5. Also, complete the questions for chapters 4 & 5. DO NOT WRITE IN THE BOXES.
2/15: IR day! Bring your IR book (or your Night book) to work all period.
2/14: Went over the questions from yesterday. Read chaps 2-3 and do FIVE Cornell notes TOTAL for both chapters (due on Friday). Chapters 4-5 Cornell notes (FIVE TOTAL for both chapters) are going to be due on the MONDAY we come back from break. Feel free to start working on it now! Bring your IR book tomorrow.You do not have to use the template, but you may. You can also write it out on your own paper.
2/13: Discussed the articles from yesterday. Asked about what expectations you have for the book. Passed out the memoir. Read Chapter 1 for HW and do the worksheet. Took IR titles.

1/18: So sorry to be missing the last day of the semester! I have a horrible cold, complete with fever, cough and runny everything. Drinking gallons of fluid has done nothing so far, and I'm honestly quite miserable! Rosie is loving it because I am rarely out of bed but I am going crazy!! But, class continues...
Down to business... the portal will close on Monday, but I will be finishing your grades next week. The Monday we come back after Regents week, I will have a print out of your grades so we can verify everything is correct before I post the grades after school on that Monday. Of course, if you would like to stop in next week and get your grade, you are welcome to do that in between exams (keep in mind I am also proctoring and not always in the room - might want to check that first). If you have failed the quarter, I will personally contact you before the end of next week. Also, please try and finish the TKAM essay in class today if you have not already done so. It is going to be a major grade for the 3rd quarter, so if you don't finish, you can finish when we get back after next week, but by then you may have forgotten what you were doing. If you have not finished the TKAM test, you can ask the sub for it and finish it today (they are clipped together on my desk), or you can finish on Monday. Also, please keep an eye out for any reminds I may send next week in case I need something from you.
If you need something from me, you can email me or respond on Remind. I'm bored, miserable, and would welcome some interaction. Be good for the sub, and study hard for your exams next week!

11/1: Today you received the handout titled "Scout's Perspective." It is due on WEDNESDAY. Remember that the audio is on my Google Classroom. IR #4 is due MONDAY. Also, we are starting the Food Drive on MONDAY. The class that wins gets a Tim Horton's party supplied by me! The Frontier Food to Families specifically asked for corn, cranberry sauce, carrots, gravy, brownie mix or cake mix, and stuffing for Thanksgiving. If you want to bring in other food, that would still be appreciated. No expired food! You get a homework pass for every FIVE things you bring in (up to 4 passes) that you can use for the rest of the year.

Also, if you have a blank for Summer Reading because you did it with a different teacher, please let me know who the teacher is so I can ask him/her for the grade. If you need to complete the Summer Reading, see me ASAP. If you have a ZERO for something you did not do, I am offering a ONE TIME (Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday!) gift of letting you turn in the missing assignment(s) for no more than HALF credit (could be less, depending on the quality). If you are going to take advantage of this offer, you must complete the work by next Wednesday at 2:30. BUT - you must complete it in this room during a free period (yours or mine) or before/after school. You must come to the room with the printed out or blank paper (print from the webpage), and you will show me that it is blank BEFORE you start working. 10/5: Hi all! I'm still sick - bad cold. Doctor said to stay home tomorrow, for my benefit and yours - no need to spread the germs around! Your IR is still due tomorrow. Make sure it gets in the tray by the end of the day (help each other out with that and help the sub when he/she is collecting the papers, please!). Only email it to me if THERE IS NO OTHER CHOICE. Remember we have a library that has computers AND printers! I'm having someone pick up the work in the trays at the end of the day and drop it off to me on Friday. Make sure you bring in your IR book - the sub will check them in, then you can either read or work on your essay. You can email me tomorrow if you need help or have questions. 9/26: Reviewed HW from yesterday and handed it in. Also, we numbered the paragraphs in "The Lottery," and we completed the middle of the attached chart. Each class created a list of central ideas than can be found in the story "The Lottery." In the first column, you need to find two paragraphs that show that central idea, and in the third column, you need to either explain it or put the example from the paragraph. Bring your IR book tomorrow! There are NO CHANGES after tomorrow. If you forget your book, you will use one of mine for the WHOLE project. IR #1 is due 10/5. Be reading!

9/21: Go to the library for your school opportunity to select an IR book. You have until 9/27 to make your final selection. After 9/27 you MAY NOT CHANGE YOUR BOOK TITLE!!!!! So, make sure you read some of the book this week to see if you like it. After going to the library for 10 mins (remember, you can use the library catalog at home to see what we have), we will be reading in the room.
9/20: Quick review of lit terms. QUIZ on lit terms. We will reivew your 1st QT IR project on this day. May want to check out the school library catalog to check out what we have here in the building, because we will only be in the library for about ten minutes. I also passed out the 1st QT IR project. 9/19: Reviewed lit terms and definitions. Played a review game on lit terms. QUIZ TOMORROW on lit terms (matching).
9/18: Finished working on in class Summer Reading assessment. You need to have an IR book for this Friday. You can bring one from home, borrow one of mine, or get one from the library. We'll be going to the library for the first 10 minutes of class on Friday. No HW due tomorrow.
9/17: Collect lit terms from Friday. Summer reading assessment IN CLASS. Your book will help you, but you can do the assessment without it. No HW.
9/14: Collected Agreement paragraphs from the day before. In class, we worked on the Lit term handout. You need to write the definition (in your OWN WORDS!) for each term, and then do a quick sketch (stick figures are fine) or visual of the word. If you didn't finish in class, it's homework. It will be collected on Monday. The SUMMER READING ASSESSMENT will happen on Monday (and probably into Tuesday). Also, your print out of a possible IR book is due Monday (see assignment from 9/13.

9/13: We discussed the group work from yesterday on "The Four Agreements." Mini Lesson # 4 on "Library Search." Assigned to bring a print out of either the Destiny Page or a page from Amazon that has a brief summary of a book you MAY choose for your IR book next week. On that page, please write 2-3 sentences about WHY this may be your IR book. This is due MONDAY. Also for HW (due tomorrow) are the 2 paragraphs on strengths/weaknesses from "The Four Agreements." IMPORTANT - Summer Reading Assessment will be on MONDAY. This is a TEST GRADE! Please review your book before Monday.

9/12: Today we were in groups and discussing "The Four Agreements" articles from yesterday. The class created summarizations and will present tomorrow. I collected the annotations. No HW.
9/11: Finished presentations of quote posters. Did Mini Lesson # 3 on Annotations. Also, read the four short articles on The Four Agreements, and annotation each one. You need THREE annotations per article (total of twelve). Summer reading assessment will be next Monday (9/17). (I am including the first few mini lessons we do in class completely filled out - eventually, you will be responsible for getting the notes from a trusted friend, or come to see me and you can copy my copy.)
