Students participate in a wide variety of activities as they hone their skills in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
The curriculum maps in grades six, seven, and eight are directly linked to the Next Generation State Standards adopted by New York State. Our curriculum maps provide consistency within each grade level and a logical progression of skills and experiences as students move through the middle grades. Among a wide array of assessment tools, students also take a state test in grades six, seven, and eight to measure performance and to identify students who need enrichment experiences in addition to their English classroom instruction.
Our department is dedicated to meeting the needs of the individual readers and writers in our classrooms and to creating engaging learning experiences. We believe that all students are readers and writers, and we encourage and support that belief in our daily instruction and planning. From individual work to collaboration with their peers and ELA teacher, students are developing communication skills to help them lead rich and productive lives.
