READING
Our Reading instruction follows a balanced literacy approach including Independent Reading, Guided Reading, Read Alouds, and Work Work (Spelling). In addition to building decoding skills, comprehension, & fluency skills, students will work throughout the year to develop the following reading skills:
- Making Predictions
- Character Analysis
- Problem / Solution
- Story Elements
- Main Idea
- Reading & Understanding Informational Text
*Students are expected to read for at least 20 minutes each night at home!!
WRITING
Students will complete writing pieces within the following genres:
- Opinion / Persuasive Writing
- Narrative Writing
- Informational / Explanatory Writing
