    Tips For Reading

    Together

Reading with your child is a wonderful way to spend time together
and one of the most effective ways to support literacy development.
Here are some tips to keep in mind to help make
reading together a positive, productive experience, for both
    you and your child:

*Find a place that is  quiet and cozy.

*Reading after snacktime  provides some "think fuel."

*Begin reading one or two easier "old favorites" to build confidence and warm up.

*When reading becomes more challenging, partner read
(child reads one page/parag., then parent reads).

*Encourage strategies: check picture, think about meaning, sentence structure,
     and parts of words.

*Model comprehension by making predictions before reading.

*Talking about a favorite, funny, or confusing part after reading.

*Find interesting words to remember from the story.

*Celebrate all the ways reading adds to your life!
