Reading with your child is a wonderful way to spend time togetherand one of the most effective ways to support literacy development.Here are some tips to keep in mind to help makereading together a positive, productive experience, for bothyou and your child:*Find a place that is quiet and cozy.
*Reading after snacktime provides some "think fuel."
*Begin reading one or two easier "old favorites" to build confidence and warm up.*When reading becomes more challenging, partner read(child reads one page/parag., then parent reads).*Encourage strategies: check picture, think about meaning, sentence structure,and parts of words.*Model comprehension by making predictions before reading.*Talking about a favorite, funny, or confusing part after reading.*Find interesting words to remember from the story.*Celebrate all the ways reading adds to your life!
