This year we will work with may different approaches to teaching your child to read. Daily instruction using the LEAD 21 reading
program, your child will be exposed to oral language development, phonological
awareness, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.
Your child will receive instruction in reading using whole group, small group
and individual settings. Along with the LEAD 21 reading program your child will also be exposed to the
Reader's Workshop model, where he/she will shop for "just right"
books and have time to read & discuss with a partner.
Our goal is to build life long readers. Your child will be gaining reading muscles in first grade and in second grade he/she will be building more comprehension skills. Your child needs to be reading nightly but also remember that your child also needs to hear fluent expressive reading too, so continue to read to your child.
