Important 1st Grade General Info.
Dear Parents,
Welcome to first grade! I am so excited about another new year at Big Tree Elem. and the opportunity to work with your child and you as partners in education.
The following info. is important, so please read carefully.
~Your child wore a bus tag home today. Please have him/her wear it for the next few days. I will be collecting these for future use.
~Regarding holiday activity days, all parents (Grandparents are welcome too if you can't attend) are invited to attend but to keep the focus on your first grader, please do not bring siblings.
~Birthdays can be celebrated in school. Please send in a treat for 20 children. DUE TO ALLERGIES, I MUST HAVE INGREDIENT LABELS FOR ANY AND ALL FOOD THAT COMES INTO THE ROOM! Remember to send napkins, cups and plastic silverware if the treat requires it. No cakes! If your child has a summer birthday, you can pick a June date to celebrate. I'm happy to pass out invitations as long as all the boys/girls or everyone is invited.
~Please be sure your child brings a backpack to school everyday. He/she will have a take-home folder that needs to be emptied and the contents reviewed each night. There will be some sort of homework each night.
~Because children function best when all of their basic needs are met, we will be having snack each day. There will not be a monthly snack calendar. Within the next week and at the beginning of each month, please send in a healthy snack (crackers, raisins, go-gurt, cereal bars, granola bars, baby carrots, goldfish, grapes, apples, string cheese, etc) with INGREDIENT LABELS. No peanuts/peanut butter please. We will then share these throughout the month. I do have access to a fridge. If you do not purchase the snack individually wrapped, please bag the snack for each child in order to make serving easier. We are on a tight schedule and have a lot to get done.
~Please have your child bring in a practical water bottle to keep on his/her desk. By practical, I mean, moderate in size, sipper top, easy to fill and clearly labeled. Send it in empty and we will fill it at school to avoid flooded backpacks. The children will rinse them out daily and bring them home on Fridays t o be washed.
~Monthly book orders will be sent home if you are interested in ordering low cost books for your child. Orders can be placed on-line or your can send in a check.
~To build a learning community feeling and reinforce teamwork, all supplies will be shared in small groups. I will store the extra supplies and replenish as needed.
~There will be a helper sign up sheet at info. night if you are interested in helping out in the classroom.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
