Things to do at home...
There are many things that you can do at home to help your little one to progress well in kindergarten! Most importantly, take an interest in what your child has been learning or doing at school. Ask him or her to discuss the day's events with you and acknowledge even the smallest of successes. Try to attend as many school functions as you can, and let your child see that you read every day. Even the simplest activity such as driving in the car can provide many learning opportunities, as you see words or math experiences everywhere along the way. Take special note of the corrected papers that come home so that you'll be aware of how your child is performing on independent tasks. Take a few moments every evening to practice alphabet sounds, sight words, money, counting, etc. (Even ten minutes of practice is better than none.) Now, in kindergarten, is the time to establish your specific routine and discipline regarding your child's educational expectations. When your young child sees that there is a connection and teamwork between home and school he/she acquires work habits that will last for many years to come. You are your child's only consistent one on one teacher, and anything that you do at home to show your child that you value his or her education will benefit your son or daughter more than you will ever know!
