Frontier Falcon with Fans

The historic outdoor high school volleyball matches between rivals Frontier and Hamburg turned out to be a very successful venture.

More than 2,000 fans were on hand Saturday for the matches that took place on the Frontier High School football field.

It is believed to be the first sanctioned high school boys volleyball match in the country and was the largest outdoor high school volleyball event in the state.

Hamburg prevailed in five games in the girls match that opened the day’s festivities.

“It was a blast. I know it didn’t come out the way we wanted it to, but we had so much fun. Everyone’s here – the students, the parents, the community,” said Frontier senior Ava Low. “We couldn’t have asked for anything better.”

Frontier’s boys squad won in straight games.

“The atmosphere was very electric. It was a one-of-a-kind opportunity,” said Frontier senior Brayden Dunz.

“It was insane,” said fellow senior Quinn Brodie. “It was definitely a feeling of being in a big college event or even professional.”

It was a true community event. In addition to the volleyball matches, there was also a Kids Zone with various games and activities, face painting and food trucks.

The event, dubbed the “Frontier Volleyball Stadium Series,” stems from the August 30, 2023 outdoor volleyball match between Nebraska and Omaha held at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska, in front of 92,003 fans, the largest crowd to see a women’s sporting event in U.S. history.
