Automated license plate readers are now fully operational across all Frontier School District properties, marking the successful completion of a key phase in the district’s ongoing campus security initiative.
Funded under the voter-approved SHIELD capital project (Safeguarding Health, Integrity, Education through Layered Deterrents), the technology utilizes specialized systems from safety company Flock Safety to log vehicle plates as they enter school grounds. District officials reiterated that all cameras are positioned to capture traffic at parking lot entrances and are not aimed at public roadways.
Under the district-wide implementation, the school district maintains sole ownership of all captured data. However, an active memorandum of understanding (MOU) allows administration officials to securely share relevant data with local law enforcement through School Resource Officers (SROs) when necessary to assist with active security concerns or investigations.
According to administration officials, expanding the network to all district buildings ensures comprehensive coverage of school perimeters, allowing security teams to instantly identify unauthorized vehicles the moment they pull onto any campus property. The Flock system continues to operate without facial recognition technology, focusing strictly on identifying vehicle characteristics rather than the drivers or passengers inside.
The completed camera installation integrates into the larger framework of the SHIELD infrastructure project, which continues to fund layered safety upgrades across the district, including hardened building entryways and modernized communication equipment.
