Superintendent's Summer Challenge

Hello to all our Falcons!

I hope each of you are enjoying your summer.  Just because its summer does not mean we should stop learning.  Summer is about having fun doing what you like to do but also about trying new things. Attached you will find summer learning goals each of our buildings created to recognize your effort to have a growth mindset. These goals include reading and math challenges. I have a number of books on my summer reading list too.  To help motivate and recognize our Falcons giving extra effort, I’ve added a few challenges of my own.

Every week, I will check our i-Ready data to see who has been busy growing.  Those students that spend the most time passing lessons in math and/or reading will earn special recognition.

I also want to hear what books you are reading, stories you are writing or learn about what you are creating.

  • Tell me what the book was about and why you would or wouldn’t recommend the book to others
  • Write me a story or poem about your summer, coming back to school or even a work of fiction from your imagination
  • For future scientists, work with a parent or older sibling to send me a video of a science experiment or an engineering creation
  • For you artists, send me artwork or a picture or video of your art.
The ideas are up to you. I will make some videos of the submissions that stand out the most throughout the summer so please include your name, grade and building. For each submission, you will be entered into a grand prize drawing to take place when we get back to school. The more
times you enter the more chances you have to win.

All submissions can be either sent to via email to or mailed to Superintendent Summer Challenge, 5120 Orchard Ave, Hamburg, NY 14075. I can’t wait to see your ideas!

Yours in Blue,

Dr. Hughes
